the story of us
Founded in 2006, Motto Apparel is the culmination of years of drunken one-liners. Over the past decade, we have often found ourselves in various states of inebriated hilarity, often times proclaiming, “Oh my gay god, we have to put that on a t-shirt”.
So we did.
Once we were sober enough to find our pants, we hit the drawing board and started filing through chicken scratched ideas on last weekends’ cocktail napkins, 3am text messages in the archives of our cell phones, and our arrest reports from the Boston Police Department (what’s up Sargeant McHenry?!). Our test lab incorporates a secret formula of tequila, celebrity gossip and Oprah re-runs. With a little help from our friend Mike in Stoneham, we slap on our shirts and run around town, measuring the success threshold of each t-shirt by the number of hi fives we get by strangers (I Hate Dakota Fanning is up to 2,347).
